Science makes it possible to distinguish NPIs—intangible health protocols based on evidence and benchmarked best practices—from health products, public health measures, activities of daily living, and unconventional care practices.
A standardized and consensual evaluation process, the NPIS Model, has been established since 2024. It is now supported by numerous learned societies and health authorities. It is based on ethical and methodological invariants recommended by healthcare research specialists and on the patient-centered approach. It clarifies the concept of NPIs and provides a logical and sequential approach to validating an NPI, from its initial observations to its certification. It improves the quality of studies and thus their scope. It enhances their justification and funding. It improves the rigor of studies and thus their transferability. It strengthens the efficiency of NPIs and thus their recognition.
The NPIS has designed a short continuing education session on the main knowledge on the scientific evaluation of INMs, module 1 of the open badge Science.
