Open Badge Practice 3 - Ethics: Ethical Competencies for the Multi-professional Practice of NPI in a Healthcare Sector

The professional practice of NPIs requires ethical skills to ensure a quality of service that meets the validation studies, to respect the humanist principles conveyed by these universal health solutions, and to prevent abuses of all kinds.
NPIs, due to their intangible content and human-mediated administration, are more subject than health products to deviations from the norm due to the contexts of use, practitioner experience, user pressure, the demands of healthcare operators, financial support arrangements, and a country's healthcare culture (NPIS White Paper, 2024). Therefore, minimum ethical training in healthcare for practitioners has become essential. It guarantees the quality of relationships and service. It provides reassurance to users and ensures greater active and lasting engagement. It establishes the practitioner's responsibility for their objectives and resources. It implies traceability of actions and provides a means of feedback.
This multi-professional training foundation in healthcare ethics, designated by the NPIS as the Open Badge Practice 3, provides the minimum competency for the multi-professional practice of NMIs.
It ensures that professionals understand and respect patients' rights, including their right to information, informed consent, confidentiality, and dignified and respectful support. The training provides the skills needed to identify and resolve ethical dilemmas that may arise in the healthcare sector. It provides guidance for making decisions that protect patients' well-being, respect professional ethics, and are consistent with local healthcare organizations. It helps professionals recognize and manage conflicts of interest that could compromise their objectivity. It confirms that decisions are guided by the patient's best interests rather than personal, corporate, or even political considerations. The Practice 3 Open Badge recognizes the integrity of professionals by providing them with the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain high standards of ethical conduct in healthcare. It promotes public confidence in the profession and enhances the professional's reputation. It ensures that the holder of this Open Badge is aware of the risks of harm and abuse that could result from the inappropriate or unethical use of an NMI.
